Mounted Games is an exciting and high profile discipline for Pony Club Members aged under 15. It provides a competition requiring courage, determination and all-round riding ability on the part of the rider and careful, systematic training of the pony
The first official competitions were held in 1956, with the Final at the Horse of the Year Show for which Prince Philip presented a Perpetual Challenge Trophy. From that day, the competition has been known as The Prince Philip Cup Competition, receiving worldwide acclaim for its concept, excitement and value to the participants. At Prince Philip’s own request, the competition was designed for “ordinary children on ordinary ponies” and those objects have remained constant.
“Friendly” Mounted Games competitions are held all over the country during the summer months at many of the agricultural and County shows. Pony Club Members fortunate enough to be selected to represent their country take part in the Home International Competition at The Royal Windsor Horse Show.
Pony Club Mounted Games are great fun involving children of all ages and abilities, and Pony Club as a whole has so much more to offer for anyone under 25, with or without a pony. To find out more about summer camps, rallies, competitions, tests, and fun and to find your nearest Pony Club Branch or Centre visit the website www.pcuk.org or call 02476 698300.
